3D Printing Capability

Industrial 3D printing, made in New Zealand.

Formtech is an additive solutions provider with production sites in Auckland and Christchurch. We run professional SLS, SLA and FDM systems in-house, and we supply and support the same platforms to industry, education and government across the country.

One part or a thousand: functional prototypes, end-use parts, jigs, fixtures and tooling — quoted, printed, finished and delivered door to door.

SLS — selective laser sintering

Production nylon parts, no supports, any geometry

A laser fuses nylon powder layer by layer; unfused powder supports the part, so complex internal features, living hinges and nested batches print without support marks. The strongest, most isotropic polymer parts we make.

What SLS gives you

Why engineers pick nylon powder over resin or filament
Strength
Near-isotropic, comparable to injection-moulded PA12
Surface
Matte, uniform; media-blasted or polished finish
Design freedom
No supports — internal channels, interlocking assemblies, print-in-place mechanisms
Tolerance
Typically ±0.3% (min ±0.3 mm) on Nylon 12
Volume
Nested builds make per-part cost fall as quantity rises
Post-processing
Depowder and media blast as standard

Formlabs Fuse X1

Large-format industrial SLS · 61.5 L build volume

Formlabs' industrial platform, launched June 2026: 7.5× the volume of the Fuse 1+ 30W, single-piece parts up to 713 mm, and around three times the throughput of comparable powder-bed systems in a 1.3 m² footprint. Print Intelligence watches every layer with thermal imaging and can drop a failed part without losing the rest of the build.

SLA — resin stereolithography

Fine detail, smooth surfaces, engineering resins

Formlabs' Form 4 generation cures resin with a masked LED light engine, printing most parts in under two hours at 25–200 µm layers. The go-to for visual models, precision fits, masters for casting and moulding, and specialist rigid, flexible, high-temperature and biocompatible materials.

Fast, economical parts from PLA to carbon-fibre nylon

Enclosed, heated-chamber CoreXY printers running at 600–800 mm/s with 370 °C hotends. Our QIDI Q2 print farm handles volume in standard and engineering filaments, the Plus 5 and Max4 step up in size, and an OrangeStorm Giga at each site handles parts up to a metre tall.

QIDI Q2 print farm

A suite of enclosed CoreXY machines with QIDI Box multi-material

Several Q2 units run in parallel, so a batch of 50 brackets or 200 clips ships in days rather than weeks. The 65 °C heated chamber and 370 °C bimetal hotend mean ABS, ASA, PC and fibre-filled nylon print reliably, not just PLA and PETG, and AI failure detection keeps unattended runs going overnight. We also sell and support the Q2 for schools, workshops and small print farms.
